Creating a Safe Environment for Using Public Restrooms
Uijeongbu City is piloting the installation of a "Pet Dog Waiting Area" to enhance the convenience of citizens using public restrooms within the city. Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Dong-geun) announced on the 30th that it has pilot-installed a 'Pet Waiting Area' to enhance the convenience of citizens using public restrooms in the area.
The installation locations are three places: Songsansaji Hanok Restroom (296 Minrak-ro), Sangkwaehaso Public Restroom (135-48 Jangam-dong), and Haengbok Gallery Public Restroom (147 Janggok-ro). These sites were selected mainly where there are many outings with pets near walking trails and where safety accident prevention is necessary.
The waiting area allows up to two dogs per location for pet safety, and if other dogs are waiting, it is recommended to use the facility sequentially. Also, to prevent startling restroom users and passersby, it is advisable to keep the leash about 1 meter short.
With the increase in pet-owning households and growing awareness of public pet etiquette, the city expects that this waiting area installation will not only improve the convenience of pet owners using public restrooms but also help prevent safety accidents involving pets.
Han In-ho, Director of the Resource Circulation Division, said, "Through the installation of this pet waiting area, we hope that the convenience of both pet owners and non-pet owners will be enhanced so that citizens can use restrooms more comfortably and safely," adding, "We will continue to strive to create a safer public restroom environment."
