Expected to Become a Hub for Training Railroad Professionals
The Railway Qualification Test Center operated by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) has relocated to Daejeon and held its opening ceremony on the 30th in Oryu-dong, Jung-gu.
The Korea Transportation Safety Authority integrated and relocated the railway qualification test centers, which were previously distributed between Uiwang and Gimcheon, to Daejeon, considering the distribution of 12 specialized railway education and training institutions nationwide, as well as to improve accessibility and public transportation convenience for test-takers.
The railway qualification tests are divided into the railway vehicle driver's license exams (six types, including the second-class electric vehicle driver's license) and the railway traffic control certification exams (two types, including railway control). As of last year, there were 3,097 applicants for the written (theory) exam and 2,479 applicants for the practical (skills) exam.
The city expects that, with the promotion of the Daejeon Line 2 tram project and the subsequent implementation of the streetcar driver's license practical exam in Daejeon, specialized railway talent from across the country will be drawn to Daejeon.
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "Attracting the railway qualification test center will serve as another opportunity for Daejeon to take a leap forward as a central hub for railway transportation," adding, "We will continue to strive to attract public institutions and do our best to establish Daejeon as a leading city in the innovation of Korea's railway transportation."
