"Seungil, Are You Watching?"... Singer Sean Announces Completion of 'Lou Gehrig's Hospital'

Singer Sean "I've Run with Seungil for 15 Years"
"Completion in Two Months... A Space for Patients and Families"

Singer Sean expressed his longing for the late Park Seung-il, co-representative of the Seungil Hope Foundation, who passed away just before the completion of the Lou Gehrig care hospital. After being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease, Park continued his battle with the illness while never ceasing his efforts to help patients in similar situations.

On the 28th, Sean wrote on his Instagram, "Seung-il, are you watching from the sky? The exterior of the country's first Lou Gehrig care hospital, which was our dream, is now complete." He also posted photos of the hospital construction site.

He added, "It will be completed in December, two months from now," and said, "Seung-il, please keep praying from that peaceful place. May the Lou Gehrig care hospital, which was your dream, become a resting place for patients and their families."

Park passed away on September 25. At that time, the Seungil Hope Foundation stated, "Park, who worked hard to raise awareness of the rare disease Lou Gehrig's disease and to build a care hospital for patients and their families, passed away after a long 23-year battle with the illness."

Park, who was on the path to becoming a professional basketball player, was appointed as the youngest coach of Ulsan Mobis at the age of 31 in 2002. However, just four months later, he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease and endured a long fight with the illness.

Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is a rare disease in which motor neurons gradually disappear, causing the body to become completely rigid. Neither the treatment nor the mechanism of onset has been clearly identified. As the disease progresses, even the muscles needed for breathing become paralyzed, eventually leading to death.

One year after his diagnosis in 2002, Park said, "I don't know how much time I have left, but I don't want to spend it meaninglessly," and resolved to live a life for patients. He later published a book titled Writing Hope with My Eyes, and in 2011, he launched the nonprofit Seungil Hope Foundation with singer Sean, promoting various fundraising activities to build the care hospital.

Thanks to his efforts, the Lou Gehrig care hospital broke ground last year and is scheduled for completion this December. Park attracted attention by attending the groundbreaking ceremony last December in an ambulance.

The Lou Gehrig care hospital is planned to operate exclusively for Lou Gehrig patients. Sean described the hospital as "the country's first Lou Gehrig care hospital with a budget of 23.9 billion KRW," adding, "I met Seung-il 15 years ago and dreamed together, and we have run without stopping for 15 years. Now Park is in the sky, but we will continue to hold on to the thread of hope."
