CJ OliveNetworks Secures Domestic Largest Public Virtual Production Studio Project

CJ OliveNetworks announced on the 30th that it has won the contract for the 'Metaverse Digital Media Innovation Hub Construction Project' commissioned by the Gyeongbuk Cultural Foundation Content Promotion Agency. The contract is valued at approximately 12 billion KRW.

CJ OliveNetworks will build the largest public virtual production studio (VP studio) in Korea, to be established in Mungyeong City, Gyeongbuk Province. Mungyeong City has been recognized as a representative historical drama filming location for Korean Wave movies and dramas for 20 years, growing into a leading historical drama filming city. To respond to the digital transformation of the content production market, Mungyeong City is promoting this project to build a VP studio and realize a comprehensive video production complex to lead innovation in the media industry.

Over the past five years, CJ OliveNetworks has carried out more than 250 domestic and international broadcasting media system integration (SI) and infrastructure construction projects.

The VP studio composes the set’s background, ceiling, and floor with large LED displays. Unlike traditional chroma key filming, filming while directly viewing the background video on the LED display can drastically reduce time and costs. To ensure the successful construction of the VP studio, CJ OliveNetworks will deploy systems and infrastructure to optimize the studio space with approximately 50 million LED pixels. In particular, the LED display is designed in a J-shape, combining both straight and curved forms to enable various genres and scene productions.
