Gyeonggi-do Expands Han River Reading Craze with 'Outdoor Library Creation' to Cities and Counties

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 30th that, in collaboration with Namyangju City, it will continue the reading craze in northern Gyeonggi by hosting an outdoor library event titled "Gyeonggi Province Outdoor Library Together: Seeing Books, Culture, and Nature!" alongside a special exhibition on Nobel Literature Prize winner Han Kang.

The province will set up the "Gyeonggi Province Outdoor Library Together" on the lawn in front of Jeong Yak-yong Library in Namyangju City on November 2, operating from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For family visitors, a "Magic Bubble Show" will be held from 2 p.m., making this the first project jointly promoted with local governments to enjoy books, culture, and nature together at an outdoor library.

Previously, at Gyeonggi Peace Plaza, an outdoor library was operated from September 20 to October 26 to allow northern Gyeonggi residents to enjoy reading and cultural experiences while savoring the autumn atmosphere, attracting over 3,000 residents. The province plans to reuse the items utilized at the outdoor library this time to provide the joy of the outdoor library to even more residents.

The province explained that the event was organized with the intention of satisfying and spreading residents' increased desire to read following Han Kang's Nobel Literature Prize win through the operation of the outdoor library.

Byun Sang-gi, Administrative Management Officer of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Through the Gyeonggi Peace Plaza outdoor library, we experienced the joy of reading in beautiful nature, and with this Nobel Literature Prize win, we felt the importance of reading that leads to change among the people. We will continue this new change in reading with nature through the outdoor library and work together with local governments so that more residents can enjoy it."

The province is also operating a book caf? at Gyeonggi Peace Plaza, a complex cultural space for residents' knowledge and relaxation, offering various events, book curation, reading challenges, and other programs to promote residents' reading culture.

Detailed information about the event and how to use the book caf? can be found on the Gyeonggi Peace Plaza Book Caf? website.
