Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is hosting ‘Library Met in the Park,’ prepared to celebrate the season of reading, from October 31 to November 2 at Asia Park.

This is the last outdoor library event of the year in Songpa.

‘Library Met in the Park’ is the Songpa-gu version of the ‘Seoul Outdoor Library’ operated by Seoul Library in different regions. Previously, outdoor libraries were set up at Songpa’s representative tourist spot ▲Seokchon Lake (Songpa Naru Park) and Garaknuri Park, a popular spot among residents, receiving great responses from the community.

Kim OO (35), who visited Garaknuri Park last weekend, said, “I came out for a walk with my child and saw books and various chairs on the lawn, so I joined in. It was a special experience to listen to music and read books outdoors,” expressing satisfaction.

Yoon OO (80) expressed gratitude, saying, “I am happy to be able to read several of my favorite books. Thank you for preparing such a romantic place to enjoy books on an autumn day.”

On October 31, Asia Park (in front of Songpa Cultural Center) will transform into a ‘Book Plaza’ composed of a bean bag zone, camping zone, and Indian tents.

Visitors can lie on bean bags of various colors or sit in the shade created by tents and enjoy curated books on themes such as companion animals and plants, health, and poetry.

In particular, a special exhibition will feature representative works by author Han Kang, who recently won the Nobel Prize in Literature, including 'The Vegetarian,' 'The Boy Who Escaped,' 'I Do Not Part,' 'White,' and 'Greek Lessons.'

Additionally, special programs to enjoy reading culture in autumn are prepared, including gardening experiences, mood lamp making, calligraphy bookmarks, and mother-of-pearl bookmark making.

There will also be busking performances of classical and traditional Korean music, providing a special reading culture experience to enjoy outdoor reading while savoring the deepening autumn atmosphere.

The Asia Park outdoor library will operate for three days from October 31 to November 2, from 12 PM to 6 PM. Anyone can participate in the special programs by registering on-site on the day of the event.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “‘Library Met in the Park’ was prepared so that residents can comfortably enjoy books, nature, and various reading cultures in familiar parks,” and added, “I recommend many people visit Asia Park, the last outdoor library of the year in Songpa, to have a romantic reading experience outdoors with books on an autumn day.”
