Namyangju City Signs RISE Project Business Agreement with Kyungbok University and Gyeonggi East Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Namyangju City Signs RISE Project Business Agreement with Kyungbok University and Gyeonggi East Chamber of Commerce and Industry Joo Gwang-deok, Mayor of Namyangju City (center), signed a joint business agreement among local government, industry, and academia to promote the Regional Innovation-Centered University Support System (RISE) project on the 28th at Udang Hall, Kyungbok University.

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 29th that it signed a joint business agreement among local government, industry, and academia at Udangwan Hall of Kyungbok University on the 28th to promote the Regional Innovation-Centered University Support System (hereinafter referred to as the RISE project).


The RISE project, introduced by the Ministry of Education, is a system to overcome the crisis of regional universities disappearing due to the decline in the school-age population by delegating and transferring administrative and financial authority for university support to metropolitan local governments to promote regional development. It will be implemented starting in 2025.


This agreement was prepared to secure a proactive response base for the promotion of the RISE project among the three parties: △ Namyangju City △ Kyungbok University △ Gyeonggi Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and to confirm mutual cooperation among institutions representing the Namyangju region, industry, and universities.


Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju City stated, “Close cooperation with Kyungbok University and the Gyeonggi Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry is essential for the successful promotion of the RISE project,” adding, “The signing of today’s agreement will be an innovative opportunity to overcome the crisis caused by rapid changes in population and industrial structure, and we will do our best to establish a new regional development ecosystem.”


Jeon Ji-yong, President of Kyungbok University, expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank Namyangju City and the Gyeonggi Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry for joining forces to promote the RISE project,” and emphasized continuous cooperation by stating, “We will work together through the joint council to ensure the successful promotion of the RISE project.”


Lee Hong-gyun, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “The Gyeonggi Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which contributes to the development of local commerce and industry, will also take a leading role in promoting the RISE project for mutual growth through cooperation among local government, industry, and academia.”


The city plans to form a joint council with Kyungbok University and the Gyeonggi Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry to vigorously discover key cooperative projects for mutual growth of the region, industry, and universities, and to actively promote applications for the RISE project.
