Choi Seo-won's Daughter Jung Yoo-ra Shares Single Mom Struggles on SNS
Previously Complained About Financial Hardship Raising Three Children
Jung Yura, daughter of Choi Seo-won (formerly Choi Soon-sil), expressed anger over the pitying looks she receives while raising her three sons after her divorce. On the 27th, Jung shared on her social media (SNS), "When you have three kids, most people encourage you and say 'Raise them well,' but occasionally, you meet someone who likes to meddle in others' affairs," and shared her story.
Jung said, "An auntie asked, 'Do you have three sons?' and when I said yes, she said, 'Who nowadays foolishly has this many kids?', 'You look young, so what are you trying to do with your life?', 'These days, people have one child and raise them well.' Then she asked, 'Where is the kids' father?' and when I said that question made me uncomfortable, she kept muttering things like, 'They say if you have three sons, it's like a noose around your neck.'
She continued, "That person persistently asked about my husband, and when I said we were divorced, she said, 'If you have three kids, you can never remarry, send one to the father,' 'How much child support do you get?' 'You must have gotten a lot in property division from your husband,' and all sorts of nonsense." She added, "Is she telling me to just get rid of the kids I gave birth to? I'm raising them well, but I seem to meet one or two people like this every few months, and it's frustrating. I think there is still a negative perception of single moms in our society."
In the past, Jung had also expressed hardship, saying she was raising her children alone and had to cover her mother Choi's hospital bills. In February, she said, "My mom sent a letter saying 'I need to go to the hospital,' and every time money comes up, I honestly feel like throwing up," adding, "I have no money to spend on the kids, so I'm wracking my brain, and the letter mentioned hospital bills."
She continued, "I'm handling everything alone for five people: the kids' tuition, monthly rent, my mom's detention money, (tablet PC) forensic fees, lawyer fees, living expenses for a family of four, and the cost of using SoCar to go to Cheongju. It's too hard now," and lamented, "If I have extra money, I buy clothes for the kids, feed them meat, add even 10,000 won to my mom's detention money, pay off debts?I honestly don't know if this is what living is."
