[2024 Women’s Forum] HanmiGlobal, Turnover Rate Below 3%... The Secret is 'Lifecycle-Based Family-Friendly Policies'

Gender Equality Index Award | Asia Economy Grand Prize (Special Award)

HanmiGlobal, which received the 'Asia Economy Representative Award (Special Award)' at the 9th Asia Gender Equality Index Awards, was highly evaluated for leading the expansion of childbirth and child-rearing friendly policies.

HanmiGlobal grants one week of paid leave when a child enters elementary school. This can also be converted into four weeks of two-hour reduced working hours. During the child-rearing period for children under 8 years old, telecommuting is allowed for up to two years (up to three years for families with two or more children). The company operates an infertility leave system, allowing female employees undergoing infertility treatment to take up to six months of leave. Paid leave for infertility treatment can be used for three days, longer than the one day stipulated by current law. Parental leave per child is up to two years. To increase the actual usage rate of infertility treatment leave and family care leave, these leaves can be taken in hourly units rather than full days.

The Secret is 'Lifecycle-Based Family-Friendly Policies' Park Hyun-soo, Head of HR at HanmiGlobal, is taking a photo after receiving a special award at the 9th Asia Gender Equality Index Awards ceremony hosted by Asia Economy on the 30th at Lotte Hotel, Jung-gu, Seoul.

Even before the legal amendment, HanmiGlobal proactively provided male spouses with 20 days of paid paternity leave (one month including holidays), and the claim period has been extended from the current 90 days to 120 days. Employees are actively encouraged to take leave in hourly units such as half-day or quarter-day increments. Additionally, the company offers a refresh leave system allowing one month of leave every five years of service, a sabbatical leave system granting 60 days of paid leave every ten years of service, and recommends taking two consecutive weeks of leave for marriage and spouse childbirth.

By implementing family-friendly policies throughout the life cycle without gender discrimination, the turnover rate has been maintained below 3% annually. Approximately 40% of regular employees, including executives, have more than 10 years of service. According to annual assessments of organizational effectiveness and voluntary engagement (HGTI) conducted by external agencies, HanmiGlobal’s score is in the 70s, surpassing the South Korean average (62 points) and the global average (68 points).

HanmiGlobal stated, "The current in-house birth rate is 1.57, which is double the national average of 0.78," and added, "We support all family types regardless of marital status, including single mothers, unmarried childbirth, and adoptive families, with the aim of leading corporate efforts to solve the low birthrate problem."
