iPhone iOS 18.1 Update Released
Enhances Work Efficiency and Daily Convenience
Available in English... Korean Not Yet Supported

Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad will be the first to experience artificial intelligence (AI) features.

On the 28th (local time), Apple announced that it will release the iOS 18.1 update featuring 'Apple Intelligence,' which allows users to refine text, summarize emails and messages, and use an enhanced personal assistant, Siri.

If the device and Siri language are set to 'U.S. English,' the Apple Intelligence features can be used in most regions worldwide. Apple stated that supported languages, including Korean, will be added in the future.

Apple Intelligence is supported only on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, all models of the iPhone 16 series, iPads equipped with the A17 Pro and later or M1 chips and later, and Macs equipped with M1 chips and later.

First, the writing tools assist with rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing in most places where text can be created, such as Mail, Messages, and Notes applications.

In particular, the rewriting feature adjusts the tone according to the style and situation selected by the user, such as 'professionally,' 'concise,' or 'friendly.' The proofreading tool checks grammar, words, and sentence structure, and summaries can also be viewed in formats like tables or lists.

Siri, with improved language comprehension, can understand what the user means even if they stutter slightly, follow and understand the context between requests, and answer thousands of questions about product features and settings. Users can converse with Siri by switching between text and voice, enabling quick completion of everyday tasks.

The Photos app becomes smarter. Users can search for photos simply by entering descriptions or explanations of the images. If unwanted objects or people are included in the photo frame, the 'Cleanup' tool can be used to remove them.

Apple Intelligence prioritizes emails and notifications to enhance efficiency. In a new section at the top of the inbox, users can check the most urgent emails, such as lunch appointments or boarding passes scheduled for today, through priority messages. Summaries can be viewed without opening messages in the inbox.

Notification priorities can be set, and key information from summarized notifications is displayed directly on the lock screen to help users quickly scan through long stacks of notifications.

More features will be added in December. Writing tools and Siri will gain access to ChatGPT, and information about camera subjects and locations will be identified and verified in real-time through Google search.

Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, explained, "Apple Intelligence is designed with privacy at its core, including on-device processing and private cloud computing. This is an innovative and new approach that extends iPhone’s privacy and security features to the cloud to protect users' information."

Apple CEO Tim Cook said, "We are very excited to introduce Apple Intelligence, a generative AI that only Apple can deliver, which will enrich our lives."
