Pukyong National University Selected for APCEIU Global Citizenship Education Course Project

International Regional Studies Department Opens 'Global Issues and World Citizens' Course

National Pukyong National University (Acting President Lee Min-hee) has been selected for the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) Global Citizenship Education Course project.

On the 28th, National Pukyong National University announced that its Department of International Area Studies was selected for the 2025 Global Citizenship Education Course Opening Support Project.

APCEIU is an international organization established in 2000 through an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Korea and UNESCO. This organization strives to promote international understanding education and global citizenship education, reflected in 'UNESCO Education 2030' and the 'United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)'.

The Global Citizenship Education Course Opening Support Project encourages the institutionalization and regularization of global citizenship education in higher education to establish a foundation for the cross-curricular expansion of global citizenship education. It is a project designed to support domestic university (graduate) students in enhancing their understanding and awareness of global citizenship education.

Following this selection, the Department of International Area Studies at National Pukyong National University will open the course "Global Issues and Global Citizens" for undergraduate students in the first semester of next year (project professors in charge: Professors Jeong Beop-mo and Moon Ki-hong of the Department of International Area Studies).

This course is a balanced liberal arts lecture for enrolled students at National Pukyong National University. Its purpose is to understand the background where awareness as global citizens has become important and to cultivate responsible citizenship by critically reflecting on international issues.

Additionally, experts will be invited to provide in-depth knowledge and perspectives on multiculturalism, global citizenship education, international development cooperation, economic justice, and international civil society.

The Department of International Area Studies has set a goal to nurture regional experts equipped with systematic knowledge and practical skills about major global regions in response to globalization and internationalization trends.

To achieve this, the department plans to provide interdisciplinary research and education on major global regions and key issues so that students can acquire general literacy and problem-solving skills regarding international issues while becoming experts on specific regions and issues.

Professor Jeong Beop-mo (majoring in International Development Cooperation, Department of International Area Studies), who will be in charge of the course, said, "Being selected as one of the 10 universities nationwide for this project, we expect to strengthen activities to enhance the quality of the curriculum and expand educational content and outcomes, such as inviting external experts for lectures in related courses that are already being offered and conducted."
