S-OIL Ulsan Plant and Onsan Nonghyup (Chairman Shin Moon-cheol) purchased local agricultural products worth a total of 500 million KRW, including pears and unhulled rice grown in the Onsan area of Ulju-gun on the 28th.
The S-OIL Onsan Area Agricultural Products Purchase Event was held on the 28th at Ulju County Office. (S-OIL purchases rice and pears produced annually in Onsan-eup, Ulju County, and supports social welfare facilities, among others).
On this day, Ulju-gun held a purchase event for 2024 Onsan local agricultural products at the small conference room of the county office, attended by County Governor Lee Soon-geol, S-OIL Executive Director Park Sung-hoon, Onsan Nonghyup Chairman Shin Moon-cheol, Onsan rice farming group leader Lee Sang-woo, and pear orchard group leader Kim Il-seop.
The S-OIL Ulsan Welfare Foundation has been purchasing rice produced in the Onsan area since 2001 to support local farmers struggling with high prices and low rice consumption. All purchased rice is donated to neighbors in need and social welfare facilities in the Ulsan area.
Additionally, since 2004, S-OIL has been purchasing pears produced in the Onsan area, contributing to revitalizing the local economy, expanding sales channels for agricultural products, and improving the quality of life for local residents.
This year’s purchase volume amounts to agricultural products worth approximately 500 million KRW, including 3,520 bags of 40kg unhulled rice and 5,890 boxes of 7.5kg pears.
Until last year, the S-OIL Ulsan Welfare Foundation has purchased and donated 5,149 tons of unhulled rice (worth about 8.7 billion KRW) and 740 tons of pears (worth about 2.2 billion KRW).
Furthermore, since 2022, the S-OIL Ulsan Welfare Foundation has additionally conducted a campaign to buy agricultural and marine product packages from the Onsan area, purchasing 1,800 packages worth 50,000 KRW each, totaling about 90 million KRW, and supporting neighbors in need and social welfare facilities until last year. This year, they also supported 500 agricultural product packages and 500 marine product packages worth a total of 60 million KRW to local residents.
S-OIL Executive Director Park Sung-hoon said, “S-OIL is carrying out various social contribution activities to coexist with Ulju-gun, where our plant is located. We will continue to grow together with the region through social contribution activities that meet the needs of local residents.”
County Governor Lee Soon-geol expressed, “I thank S-OIL, Onsan Nonghyup, and local farmers who actively participate in the campaign to buy local agricultural products with special interest in the local community. I hope this will be an opportunity for sustainable exchange between companies and rural areas, promoting mutual growth between urban and rural communities.”
