Hanam City held a publication celebration for the poetry and painting collection, the result of the 2024 Reading Culture and Arts Healing Project 'Misa Donghaengsi,' on the 25th at Misa Hall on the 4th floor of Misa Library. Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyun-jae) announced on the 28th that on the 25th, the publication celebration of the poetry and painting collection, the fruition of the 2024 reading culture and arts healing project ‘Misa Donghaengsi,’ was successfully held at Misa Hall on the 4th floor of Misa Library, with over 70 participants including program attendees.
‘Misa Donghaengsi’ is a dementia prevention cultural arts healing project that means ‘a time when beautiful people engage in artistic activities together and achieve happiness,’ providing various cultural and artistic experience opportunities.
The project operates in a collaborative manner where the Hanam City Dementia Safety Center selects elderly people at high risk of dementia as participants, and the program is conducted at Misa Library.
This year, the project expanded to allow classes to be held not only at the existing location, Misa Library, but also at Sinjang Library located in the old downtown area, improving accessibility for the elderly.
The publication celebration of the Misa Donghaengsi poetry and painting collection held that day was organized to introduce the poems and paintings completed by the elderly participants through their creative activities to the public.
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae, who attended the publication celebration, also brought cheerful laughter from the elderly by randomly opening the poetry collection and reading aloud the selected writings as part of an event activity.
An elderly participant in the Misa Donghaengsi program said, “I looked forward to every Friday when Misa Donghaengsi was held, not only because it helps prevent dementia but also because it allows me to form a sense of solidarity with neighbors participating in the program,” adding, “I hope more programs like Misa Donghaengsi, where citizens can happily participate, will be created in the future.”
Mayor Lee Hyun-jae emphasized, “Congratulations on the publication of the ‘Misa Donghaengsi’ poetry and painting collection and the holding of the participants’ exhibition,” and added, “Hanam City will support dementia prevention and treatment to create a happy city for the elderly and will continue to promote reading culture and arts healing programs.”
Meanwhile, the exhibition of works by ‘Misa Donghaengsi’ participants will be held in the lobby on the 4th floor of Misa Library until November 30.
