Yisang-suk, a member of the Yeoju City Council, held the 13th Legislative Forum titled "The Address of Youth" on the theme of "Youth" at the Moga Museum on the 25th. The Yeosu City Council in Gyeonggi Province (Councilor Sang-sook Lee) held the 13th Legislative Forum titled "The Address of Youth" on the 25th at the Moga Museum, focusing on youth.
According to the Yeosu City Council on the 28th, the event was hosted by the Yeosu City Council and organized by Yeosu youth, with about 70 attendees including city council members, public officials, young office workers, young self-employed individuals, young farmers, and general citizens. The forum provided a genuine opportunity for Yeosu youth to express their feelings and hopes, share diverse opinions, and engage in Q&A sessions for communication.
This legislative forum was organized by Councilor Sang-sook Lee as a first step to listen to and communicate with youth so that they want to stay in Yeosu. This is because, as shown in the "2023 Social Survey," the youth dependency ratio is decreasing annually while the elderly dependency ratio is increasing, and the factors announced as policies to solve population decline are most closely related to youth.
Councilor Sang-sook Lee proposed the "Ordinance on the Creation of a Youth-Friendly City in Yeosu" as the lead sponsor at the 70th 1st regular meeting in May, which was enacted on June 27, making it the first such ordinance in Gyeonggi Province. Since then, she has prepared the forum by exchanging opinions and concerns with the Yeosu Youth Council regarding the youth’s desires and policies for Yeosu.
On the day, Councilor Sang-sook Lee chaired the forum, and youth presenter Jae-kwon Lee introduced various honest and candid voices of youth under the theme "Yeosu Youth Speak." He pointed out issues such as job shortages, youth outflow, housing and living environment, cultural life, and transportation as problems in Yeosu and presented solutions.
Geun-il Hwang presented on youth policy cases and ESG management, introducing policy examples from Haenam, Gwangju, and Chungbuk, emphasizing the importance and necessity of ESG policies.
Also, Seok-jin Sung introduced what Yeosu looks and feels like from a youth perspective and the true image of Yeosu that youth desire, stressing the need for youth awakening and presenting future directions.
Sang-seop Lim, director of the Yeosu Youth Counseling Center, spoke on out-of-school youth and youth, discussing the current status and solutions for out-of-school youth and the role of youth within that, suggesting the establishment of a delivery system, strengthening operational personnel, and enhancing youth participation.
Myeong-gi Jeon, director of the Ganam Youth Culture House, cited Seongnam City as an example and proposed six areas of youth policy needed in Yeosu. He evaluated the linkage between youth policies and adolescent policies and expressed the opinion that the effectiveness of policies should be continuously improved based on this.
Councilor Sang-sook Lee said, "It is truly necessary to have time to communicate with youth, and today was a meaningful time. To solve the housing problem, which many youth pointed out as an issue, it is necessary to supply public rental housing under exceptional conditions. We also plan to hold a roundtable with local members of the National Assembly and the mayor to gather more youth opinions that could not be covered today," adding, "We will seek ways for youth to express diverse opinions, communicate, and reflect them in policies."
