Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Seo Tae-won) announced on the 28th that the Animal Medical Support Team project, which was piloted for the first time this year, has recently been successfully completed. This project provided specialized medical and quarantine services to livestock on elderly farms, receiving great responses from farmers.

The Animal Medical Support Team consisted of four teams, including personnel from the county Livestock Policy Division (4 members), public veterinarians (4 members), and Gapyeong Livestock Cooperative (4 members), supporting livestock farms once every quarter, totaling four times a year. Free services included surgical treatment and injections for livestock, disease consultations, feeding management guidance, and support for quarantine supplies.

This year, the Animal Medical Support Team visited over 70 farms and treated a total of 1,878 livestock. Services included infectious disease blood tests for 470 animals, deworming injections for 874 animals, treatment for ringworm and diarrhea for 104 animals, pneumonia treatment for 7 animals, and the provision of various quarantine supplies such as dewormers and immune boosters.

In particular, despite the unprecedented heatwave this summer, the county reported almost no livestock deaths among Gapyeong’s livestock farms, which is evaluated as a significant effect of the Animal Medical Support Team’s quarantine and medical activities.

Park Jun-gyu, head of the Livestock Policy Division, stated, “With the successful operation of the Animal Medical Support Team piloted this year, expectations for expanded support for livestock farms are increasing,” and added, “We will analyze this year’s project outcomes and continue efforts to make the animal medical support project even more effective in the future.”
