'November 1 is Hanwoo Eating Day'... Up to 50% Discount Until December 8

'So(牛)Prize 2024 Korea Hanwoo Sale' for 10 days from the 30th

In anticipation of 'Hanwoo Eating Day' on the 1st of next month, an event offering up to 50% discounts on Hanwoo beef will be held to promote consumption.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on the 28th that, in cooperation with the Nonghyup Economic Holdings, the National Hanwoo Association, and the Hanwoo Fund, a large-scale Hanwoo discount event called 'So(U)prise 2024 Korea Hanwoo Sale' will take place nationwide for 10 days from the 30th of this month to the 8th of next month at major supermarkets, Nonghyup Hanaro Marts, and key online malls.

This discount event was organized to support Hanwoo farmers who are struggling due to weak wholesale prices and to reduce the burden of grocery prices for consumers in celebration of Hanwoo Eating Day on November 1st.

The detailed schedule of discount events at participating online and offline stores varies depending on stock availability and store circumstances, but most online and offline stores will hold discount events from October 31st through the weekend until November 3rd. Detailed schedules by store can be checked on the websites of the Hanwoo Fund, the National Hanwoo Association, and Nonghyup Economic Holdings.

The discounted items include representative grilling cuts such as sirloin, as well as brisket, bulgogi, and soup cuts. In particular, at Nonghyup-affiliated online malls (Nonghyup Liveley, Nonghyup Mall, etc.) and the online Hanwoo marketplace, '1++' grade sirloin can also be purchased at affordable prices.

The discounted prices for 1st grade cuts are 7,460 KRW per 100g for sirloin, 3,550 KRW for brisket, and 2,670 KRW or less for bulgogi and soup cuts. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs explained that these prices are at least 20-30% cheaper compared to consumer prices during the same period last year.

Kim Jeong-wook, Director of Livestock Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "Since its inception in 2008, Hanwoo Eating Day, now in its 17th year, was established by producer organizations with the intention of selling Hanwoo beef to the public at the lowest possible prices." He added, "We hope consumers will enjoy delicious and reasonably priced Hanwoo beef in large quantities on Hanwoo Eating Day as a way to support Hanwoo farmers."
