Samcheok City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Park Sang-su), hosted the ‘2024 Samcheok Cultural Heritage Night Tour’ under the subtitle ‘Night! Let's Play at Jukseoru’ for three days starting from the 25th, which concluded successfully with enthusiastic responses from many visitors.

This event featured the theme of seven nights (夜), with over 20 experiential programs held against the backdrop of cultural heritage and facilities such as Samcheok Jukseoru, bathed in moonlight, and Samcheok Seongnae-dong Catholic Church.

The reenactment of the appointment procession of the Samcheok Dohobu governor, marking the start of the night tour, was led by a military band and included the Samcheok Dohobu governor, child governors, Confucian scholars, Samcheok Cultural Center, children, and citizens, highlighting the meaning of a night tour created together by the local community.

The opening ceremony of the '2024 Samcheok Cultural Heritage Night Tour,' hosted by Samcheok City and held over three days starting from the 25th, took place at Jukseoru, a national cultural heritage site.

This year, the event also commemorated the promotion of Samcheok Jukseoru, a masterpiece of naturalistic architecture, the only national cultural heritage among the Eight Scenic Spots of Gwandong, and a representative cultural heritage of Samcheok, to national treasure status.

The night tour featured various programs such as a nighttime tightrope walking performance by the Kwon Yeontae Yeonhuidan troupe held at Jukseoru Square, a candlelight performance at Seongnae-dong Catholic Church, busking at Daehak-ro and Jukseoru parking lot, a rubbing experience of the Cheokju Donghaebi monument at Gyeongsajae, and chocolate-making experience at Samrakgwan.

Additionally, various linked programs were held, including Daehak-ro Culture Day featuring Yoon Ddan Ddan and Jamgol Bus, the comedy musical ‘Tomorrow is Superstar’ starring Park Hwi-soon and Ahn Sang-tae, and the urban regeneration social market ‘Hamsung’ by the Samcheok City Urban Regeneration Center, further enhancing the status of Samcheok as a cultural city.

A Samcheok City official stated, “Through this ‘2024 Samcheok Cultural Heritage Night Tour,’ we hope that citizens and tourists had the opportunity to directly experience the living cultural heritage atmosphere at the national cultural heritage site Samcheok Jukseoru, broadening awareness of cultural heritage.” He added, “We will continue to expand national heritage enjoyment programs to improve the cultural quality of life for our citizens.”
