October 25-27 '1st Yeongdeungpo Seonyudowon Festival' Successfully Concludes
Festival Stages Held at Seonyudo Park, Walkable Street, and Seonyuro Shopping District
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that the “1st Yeongdeungpo Seonyudo Garden Festival,” held over three days from the 25th to the 27th, successfully concluded with the participation and enthusiastic response of approximately 75,000 residents, proving its potential as a sustainable festival.
The “Yeongdeungpo Seonyudo Garden Festival,” held around Seonyudo?meaning “the wanderland of immortals”?was staged across multiple venues including Seonyudo Park, Korea’s first environmental regeneration ecological space, the walkable streets near Seonyudo Station, and the Seonyuro shopping district.
In particular, the “KBS National Singing Contest Yeongdeungpo Edition,” held on the 26th at Yanghwa Hangang Park, marked the festival’s climax. With about 75,000 visitors over three days, the residents’ participation and enthusiasm were remarkable.
Especially notable was the “October Seonyu” event held on the “Walkable Street” near exits 2 and 3 of Seonyudo Station, where residents and students actively participated. Students from Hangang Media High School contributed their talents by creating promotional materials such as posters, while residents themselves organized shops, event booths, programs, and performances. The “Humanoid Robot” dance by the Intelligent Robot Project Team from Sangmyung University attracted visitors’ attention and energized the festival. Members of various professional organizations and volunteers from Yangpyeong 2-dong worked tirelessly to maintain order and provide event guidance throughout the festival’s final day to ensure safety.
At Seonyudo Park, starting with the opening ceremony and performance at 7 p.m. on the 25th, a variety of outdoor performances, street art markets, and participatory programs including the Seonyudo Campnic continued for three days, drawing visitors’ interest and adding to the enjoyment.
Efforts to enhance visitor convenience were also evident. To disperse restroom usage, additional portable toilets were installed in Seonyudo Park, and “Open Restroom Usage Notices” were posted around Seonyudo Station.
The festival also revitalized the local economy. Visitors continuously flocked to the “Seonyuro Nopo Festival” in the alley-type shopping district near Seonyudo Station. Additionally, the flea market held during October Seonyu showcased charming accessories, crafts, and food items, serving as a model case for revitalizing commercial districts and fostering coexistence with small business owners.
Special attention was paid to environmental maintenance and cleanliness. Illegal storage items and unauthorized street vendors causing inconvenience around the event site were cleared, and large recycling bins were installed to ensure a pleasant and clean festival environment.
Going forward, the district plans to strengthen communication with residents and small business owners to ensure that the “Yeongdeungpo Seonyudo Garden Festival” can continue sustainably and establish itself as an eco-friendly festival.
Furthermore, efforts will be made to widely promote the appeal of the local commercial district so that the alley-type shopping district near Seonyudo Station and the Seonyuro shopping area can be reborn as representative local commercial districts of Seoul.
The district expressed gratitude to all residents, merchants, and related organizations who contributed, noting that thanks to multiple safety and related department meetings held months in advance, the 1st “Yeongdeungpo Seonyudo Garden Festival” was able to conclude safely and comfortably.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We paid special attention to safety management to ensure a safe festival and made thorough preparations from various angles, including installing additional restrooms for visitor convenience. Moving forward, we will do our best to make the ‘Yeongdeungpo Seonyudo Garden Festival’ a representative festival of Yeongdeungpo alongside the ‘Yeouido Spring Flower Festival’ with new and exciting content every year.”
