Gangnam-gu Delegation Visits Berlin for Meeting with Deputy Mayor

The Gangnam-gu delegation, led by Mayor Jo Seong-myeong, announced on the 27th that they visited the Berlin New Town Development Model Exhibition Center on the 26th to explore urban planning and the creation of a compact city to lead Gangnam's future for the next 100 years.

The delegation examined the process of developing Berlin into a compact city that densely integrates residential, commercial, and business functions after German reunification. They inspected Berlin Central Station and Potsdamer Platz, representative examples of a compact city.

Mayor Jo Seong-myeong of Gangnam-gu stated, "Through our first meeting with Bonn, we were able to explore tasks to jointly pursue in sustainability, environment, and smart city sectors," adding, "We will create a new Gangnam by referring to Berlin's successful compact city model and public-private partnership cases."

Berlin Central Station serves as a complex transfer center where transit and connecting transportation converge, acting as a hub for public transportation, while the nearby natural spaces provide tourism and relaxation functions. The Potsdamer Platz area, where the Berlin Wall once stood, was reborn as a mixed cultural and commercial space through large-scale public-private redevelopment after German reunification.

Meanwhile, on the 25th, the delegation visited Bonn City Hall and met with Deputy Mayor Ursula Sauter. Bonn is recognized as a city at the center of "sustainability" and "cybersecurity." The district stated that during this meeting, they confirmed shared goals and cooperation possibilities between the two cities and plan to concretize cooperation plans in various fields in the future.
