President Yoon Suk-yeol met with and encouraged cadets from the Air Force Academy who visited the Yongsan Presidential Office on the 25th, the presidential spokesperson Jung Hye-jeon conveyed in a written briefing on the 26th.
187 fourth-year cadets, who are about to graduate from the Air Force Academy, toured the Presidential Office, including the National Security Office and the Presidential Security Service, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the previous day and attended a security lecture.
Upon hearing about the cadets' visit, President Yoon made an unannounced surprise visit to encourage them. President Yoon expressed regret, saying, "If I had known you were coming in advance, I would have personally treated you to lunch and introduced you to the Presidential Office."
He added, "I welcome you all, and seeing you makes me feel very reassured."
In front of the Presidential Office building, President Yoon shouted the Air Force Academy's 'Eagle Motto' together with all the fourth-year cadets and took a commemorative photo. Chief of Staff Jung Jin-seok was also present.
The Presidential Office explained that President Yoon's 'surprise encouragement' that day reflected his usual philosophy of honoring heroes in uniform.
Security tours for fourth-year cadets from the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies have been conducted since the Presidential Office relocated to Yongsan. The Presidential Office stated, "The purpose is to instill pride in the cadets who will dedicate themselves to the nation and its people on the front lines of national security."
The cadets toured the Presidential Office's working spaces, the State Council chamber, the National Security Office, the Crisis Management Center, and the Children's Garden under the guidance of senior Air Force Academy alumni dispatched to work at the Ministry of National Defense and the Presidential Office. They also attended a lecture on the spirit and duties of soldiers given by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Presidential Office explained that the cadets expressed sentiments such as "I have developed a strong pride in military service."
