On the 25th at 7 PM, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, announced that he attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Kwangwoon University Station Area Development Project’ held on the site of the Kwangwoon University Station area development project.
The Kwangwoon University Station Area Development Project is a large-scale project to develop a 156,581㎡ site, including logistics land within Kwangwoon University Station, into a new economic hub combining office, commercial, and residential facilities.
According to the development plan, it includes ▲a high-end residential complex with up to 49 floors and a total of 3,032 households ▲office and commercial facilities including a 5-star hotel ▲public land including a library and sports center ▲a 750m-long central commercial street. The project operator, HDC Hyundai Development Company (hereafter HDC), will also relocate its headquarters to the Kwangwoon University Station area, raising expectations.
The current groundbreaking is for the mixed-use residential construction project, with commercial office land and public land to be sequentially developed, aiming to complete the entire project by 2028.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key figures including Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly, Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, Kim Sung-hwan, Member of the National Assembly, and Choi Ik-hoon, CEO of HDC, who spent time communicating with residents.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, said, “I am grateful for the help of many people, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, at every critical moment such as the Kwangwoon University Station area development, Changdong Vehicle Base, and Baeksamaeul redevelopment projects. Above all, after more than 40 years of waiting, we will do our best to swiftly complete Wolgye-dong and Nowon District, which will be transformed dramatically, as the residents expect.”
