Yangju City Hoam Site Museum Signs Business Agreement with National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage

Promotion of Collaborative Analysis and Research on Cultural Heritage Excavated from Hoheamsaji, Yangju

Yangju City Hoam Site Museum Signs Business Agreement with National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage Yangju City Hoamsaji Museum and the National Heritage Administration National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage are signing a business agreement on the 25th.

Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 25th that the Yangju Hoam Temple Site Museum (Director Hong Mi-young) and the National Heritage Agency’s National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (Director Lim Jong-deok) have signed a business agreement.


The two institutions signed the agreement to promote interdisciplinary joint research and research exchange on important cultural heritage excavated from the Hoam Temple Site in Yangju, and agreed to cooperate to widely publicize the outstanding universal value of the Yangju Hoam Temple Site to the public through analysis and research.


The main contents of the agreement include ▲ interdisciplinary research for scientific analysis and interpretation of cultural heritage excavated from the Yangju Hoam Temple Site ▲ publication of related research books and holding academic conferences ▲ promotion and joint utilization of research results.


The Yangju Hoam Temple Site (Historic Site) was a royal temple that flourished from the mid-Goryeo to mid-Joseon periods, recognized for its value as an archaeological heritage proving the prosperity of Buddhist Seon (Zen) culture that was popular in East Asia in the 14th century, and was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2022.


Although important relics such as Yeongnak decorations, painted Buddhist statues, and blue roof tiles were excavated through a total of 13 excavation surveys, analysis and research have not been actively conducted.


Going forward, the two institutions plan to build a close cooperative relationship for sample analysis and interpretation to improve the efficiency of research work and jointly promote academic activities based on research results.


The Yangju Hoam Temple Site Museum has been conducting continuous investigations, research, and academic conferences to highlight the historical and cultural value of the Hoam Temple Site, a representative cultural heritage of Yangju City.


Hong Mi-young, Director of the Culture and Tourism Division, stated, “We will strengthen the network of cooperation with various cultural heritage institutions to deepen research on the Hoam Temple Site and continuously strive for its inscription as a World Heritage Site.”
