Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital is promoting the construction of a second National Cancer Center.


Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital (Director Min Jeong-jun), recognized worldwide as a specialized cancer hospital, presented a vision for a new leap forward on the 25th, marking its 20th anniversary since opening.


In particular, Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital also held a completion ceremony for the Future Medical Innovation Center, which will serve as a hub for next-generation vaccines and immunotherapy.


The Future Medical Innovation Center, which began construction in June 2022 as an open medical innovation center, was recently renamed through a public contest and was unveiled for the first time on this day.


The Future Medical Innovation Center, designed as a space where various research institutions, startup ventures, and mid-sized companies can actively conduct clinical trials of new technologies, was built with a total floor area of 23,304㎡ (approximately 7,050 pyeong), consisting of three basement floors and six above-ground floors.


About 300 guests from various sectors attended the event, including Jeong Seong-taek, Chairman of Chonnam National University Hospital and President of Chonnam National University; Jeong Sin, Director of Chonnam National University Hospital; Gu Bok-gyu, Mayor of Hwasun County; and Yoon Ho-yeol, Director of Jeonnam Bio Industry Promotion Agency.


Min Jeong-jun, Director of Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital, expressed his determination in a commemorative speech, saying, “To realize this new vision, we will promote the construction of a second National Cancer Center. It is an essential facility to achieve both a revolutionary qualitative leap and quantitative expansion in regional cancer treatment, and we will become the world’s best cancer hospital.”


Jeong Sin, Director of Chonnam National University Hospital, also emphasized, “Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital has established itself as the most competitive hospital in the region. The completion of the Future Medical Innovation Center will serve as a base where research and clinical trials can be conducted more actively and will be a stepping stone to becoming a global leader in next-generation vaccines and immunotherapy.”
