Hannam University Incubated Company SierraBase Wins Award at UAE 'AI Global Challenge'

The Only Domestic Company to Receive an Award

Hannam University Startup Support Group’s company 'Sierra Base (CEO Kim Song-hyun)', nurtured through the Startup-Centered University project, won an award at the UAE Global AI (Artificial Intelligence) Challenge.

The ‘DMCCxAGCC Global AI Challenge,’ co-organized by DMCC, the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre under the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, and the global accelerator AGCC, saw participation from over 600 companies across more than 40 countries worldwide. The final competition was held on the 16th at the Dubai Harbour GITEX Expand North Star venue. Sierra Base won 3rd place and was the only domestic company to receive an award.

Sierra Base participated in the competition with ‘SIRIUS,’ a platform capable of 3D simultaneous control of robots and smart inspection monitoring of construction sites through AI. Based on its technological capabilities, it enabled a high level of autonomous flight and drastically reduced the cost and time of AI-based facility diagnosis. This robot detects building cracks, efflorescence, rebar exposure, and spalling, and its precise crack analysis automatically detects cracks as small as 0.1mm, which is smaller than the legal standard of 0.3mm.

Sierra Base was selected as a leap-stage company for the 2024 Hannam University Startup-Centered University project and received support. It also obtained new technology certification for its ‘autonomous drone system applying digital twin technology and concrete structure exterior inspection technology using artificial intelligence algorithms.’

President Lee Seung-chul said, “I hope many domestic startup companies gain competitiveness and recognition in the global market with innovative items,” adding, “Hannam University will continue to provide opportunities for startups to enter the global market through various startup support policies and will spare no effort to help them build competitiveness.”
