Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon posted the following on his SNS after hearing the news of actress Kim Soo-mi's passing on the 25th.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon expressed his condolences on the passing of actress Kim Soo-mi (75), who was beloved nationwide for her role as 'Ilyong Eomni' in the drama "Jeonwon Ilgi," saying, "A great star of the cultural and artistic world has fallen."
In a post on his social media on the 25th, Governor Kim Dong-yeon mourned the late actress, stating, "The bright and warm image of actress Kim Soo-mi, who played Ilyong Eomni, will remain forever in all of our memories."
He added, "She was an outstanding actress and a warm-hearted person," and "I sincerely pray for her peaceful rest. I also extend my condolences to the bereaved family."
Earlier, Kim Soo-mi suffered cardiac arrest and was transported to Seoul St. Mary's Hospital in Seocho-gu around 8 a.m. that day but was pronounced dead. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of her death.
Born in 1949, Kim Soo-mi debuted as part of MBC's 3rd public recruitment talent group in 1970 and rose to stardom playing the role of Ilyong's mother in the MBC drama "Jeonwon Ilgi." She continued to actively work well into her middle age, appearing in dramas such as "Oh Baksa-ne Saramdeul," "Annyeong, Francesca," and films including "The Great Legacy," "Barefoot Ki-bong," and the "Glory of the Family" series.
She was also known for her exceptional cooking skills and worked as a kimchi entrepreneur, leading variety shows like "Do You Eat?" and "Soo-mi's Side Dishes." Until recently, she participated in filming the tvN variety show "The Chairman's People," appearing in episodes aired through September.
