The Choi Dong-won Memorial Foundation (Chairman Jo Woo-hyun), which organizes the 'Choi Dong-won Award,' announced on the 25th, "Jung Hyun-woo of Deoksu High School has been chosen as the winner of the 7th 'Daeseon High School Choi Dong-won Award.'"
This year, Jung Hyun-woo appeared in 16 games in the high school weekend league and national tournaments, pitching 48.1 innings with an 8-0 record, a 0.75 ERA, and 70 strikeouts. Demonstrating top-tier control among high school pitchers, he allowed only 13 walks and hit batters combined, delivering nearly flawless pitching with just 5 runs allowed (4 earned). Notably, in the Shinsegae E-Mart Cup, where Deoksu High School won the championship, he pitched in 5 games, achieving 3 wins (undefeated) with a 0.57 ERA, and in the Hwanggeumsaji Tournament, he posted an outstanding record of 2 wins (undefeated) and a 0.79 ERA over 3 games.
Standing 184 cm tall and weighing 87 kg, Jung Hyun-woo throws a fastball that reaches a top speed of 152 km/h. He is regarded as a promising pitcher who possesses a well-rounded skill set, including control, a variety of breaking balls, game management ability, and strong mental toughness. Unusually for a pitcher, he serves as the team captain, effectively leading his teammates and younger players, significantly contributing to uniting Deoksu High School as one team, embodying the spirit of Choi Dong-won.
Jung Hyun-woo expressed, "I am very honored to receive this meaningful award," adding, "I have always respected senior Choi Dong-won, who devoted himself to the team and cared for his teammates, so I am delighted to receive such a significant award." He continued, "When I think of senior Choi Dong-won, 'fighting spirit' comes to mind. I always keep the true love for baseball and the spirit of fighting in my heart."
The prize money for the 'Daeseon High School Choi Dong-won Award' is 10 million KRW. Sponsored by Daeseon Brewery Co., Ltd., a leading company in Busan supporting the development of high school baseball, the 10 million KRW is split equally with 5 million KRW awarded as a scholarship to the winner, Jung Hyun-woo, and 5 million KRW provided to support the Deoksu High School baseball team. The award ceremony will be held on November 11 at 2 p.m. in the Ocean Hall on the 2nd floor of the Busan Bank headquarters, alongside the '11th BNK Busan Bank Choi Dong-won Award' ceremony, which honors the best professional baseball pitcher.
