Yongin City Holds '1st Citizen Design Group' Performance Report Meeting

Discussion on Establishing Citizen Participation-Based Public Design

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 25th that it held the '1st Yongin Special City Citizen Design Group' performance report meeting at the City Hall Convention Hall on the 24th.

About 60 people, including members of the Citizen Design Group, contractors, and city officials, attended the report meeting, where the achievements of the Citizen Design Group, launched in April, over the past six months were shared. The Citizen Design Group engaged in activities where citizens, experts, and city officials collaboratively analyzed various local issues and derived citizen-centered solutions through public service design techniques.

This year’s theme for the Citizen Design Group was 'urban branding.' Based on this theme, the city conducted four workshops covering ▲urban branding ▲color ▲PR ▲public design education. The design group researched developing the basic design of symbols embodying the city’s identity and future vision, creating application materials, and planning promotional activities to establish a new urban brand for the city.

In particular, the Citizen Design Group achieved success by having all subgroups participate and win awards in the city symbol design contest held in May. An awards ceremony for outstanding performers and subgroups was also held during the report meeting.

The city plans to form and operate the Citizen Design Group again next year to reflect citizens’ opinions from various fields in urban design and to discover public design projects. To this end, the city will finalize the activity themes and number of members early next year and announce recruitment.

A city official stated, "We will expand the Citizen Design Group to establish a public design system where citizens participate in all processes, from public design education and project discovery to monitoring."
