Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will hold the “Songpa Companion Animal Festival” on the 27th at 11 a.m. at the Tancheon Retention Basin Dog Park, where visitors can interact with their pets under the warm autumn sun.

The district organized this event to meet the needs of pet-owning households and promote a proper companion culture in celebration of Seoul Animal Protection Day (October 4). The event is filled with rich autumn-themed content, including unique competitions with dogs, lectures by professional trainers, frisbee performances, and various experience booths.

First, a series of unique competitions starring the dogs will take place on stage. Starting with the “Wait” event Olympics at 11 a.m., followed by the Pet Talent Contest at 12 p.m., the Pet Scholarship Quiz at 12:20 p.m., and the “Find Me” and “Come Here” event Olympics at 1:30 p.m., a delightful spectacle will unfold.

The “Olympics” and “Talent Contest,” which require dogs to participate, allow priority participation on-site with prior reservation via QR code. The “Scholarship Quiz,” covering essential knowledge for pet owners such as pet etiquette and animal protection laws, will accept on-site registration. The top three winners of the Talent Contest will perform an encore stage at the opening ceremony held at 1 p.m.

Additionally, special events led by experts are planned. The 2024 AAC Agility National Team coach will give a lecture on CPR techniques to save the lives of beloved pets in emergencies, and a trainer from the Korea Agility Association will present an impressive frisbee performance synchronized with their dogs.

Various permanent booths will be open for enjoyment until 5 p.m. Visitors can create memories with their dogs through photo booths and caricatures, or make items such as leashes and ID badge pins. There will also be a tarot reading corner to check compatibility with pets, a hygiene and grooming booth, and an adoption promotion booth by the Seoul Animal Welfare Support Center to encourage a mature adoption culture.

Visitors should note that animal registration and rabies vaccination status will be checked upon entry, and the event will affect the operating hours of the existing dog park. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., only large dogs are allowed, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., only medium and small dogs under 40 cm in height may use the park.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “As the second-largest district in Seoul with 36,000 registered animals, the needs of pet owners here are diverse. We will continue to promote companion animal projects that meet the expectations of our residents.” He added, “We hope everyone creates happy memories with their dogs on an autumn outing during this clear season.”
