Gwanak-gu 'Shoe Shiners Gathering' (Nokjihoe) Donates Approximately 137 Million Won Over 35 Years

'Gwanak Nokjihoe' Composed of Shoe Repair Stand Representatives Spreads Voluntary Sharing Culture Through Shoe Polishing Talent Donation
All Collected Shoe Repair Fees Donated to Support Local Neighbors in Need, Including Child-Headed Households and Elderly Living Alone

"Although it started as a small help at a shoe repair stand, I hope it can be a great support to neighbors in need."

Gwanak-gu, a welfare city where all residents are happy (Mayor Park Junhee), joined hands with the 'Gwanak Nokjihoe' on the 23rd to share warmth through the 'Love Shoe Shiner' program across the region.

'Gwanak Nokjihoe' is a group composed of representatives operating shoe repair stands active in Gwanak-gu. Since 1990, Nokjihoe has been conducting volunteer activities annually through the 'Love Shoe Shiner' to live together with neighbors.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the event, with 22 businesses and many residents voluntarily participating to help neighbors in need. In particular, Gwanak-gu office employees also joined the fundraising activities to practice the value of sharing.

The collected shoe repair fees will be fully donated as funds to help local neighbors in need, such as children-headed households and elderly living alone.

Kang Kyuhong, president of Gwanak Nokjihoe, expressed his thoughts, saying, "Although everyone is struggling due to the prolonged economic downturn, I am glad that we can continue donations through the 'Love Shoe Shiner'."

Until last year, the amount raised through Gwanak Nokjihoe's talent donation reached about 137 million won. In addition to donations, they have been steadily volunteering by visiting orphanages and child centers in Gwanak-gu every year.

Mayor Park Junhee said, "I would like to express my gratitude to President Kang Kyuhong and the members of Gwanak Nokjihoe who have consistently practiced sharing with neighbors in need for 35 years," and added, "I hope that the voluntary culture of sharing to help neighbors in need in our society will continue to spread widely."
