Daehung-dong Taeyoung Apartment Senior Center and Iksu Senior Center Selected as Meal Service Institutions Considering Elderly Accessibility
Hyodobapsang Establishes Itself as a One-Stop Senior Welfare Service Restoring Elderly Health and Vitality
Six additional meal service centers for the ‘Hyodo Bapsang’ program in Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su), which is bringing warm changes to the local community, have newly opened to welcome senior citizens.
With this, the total number of Hyodo Bapsang meal service centers has reached 44, allowing about 1,500 seniors in the area to use the service.
‘Hyodo Bapsang’ is a one-stop senior welfare service that Mapo-gu pioneered nationwide, providing high-quality lunch meals along with health, legal, and tax consultations for seniors aged 75 and older, receiving positive feedback from residents.
In particular, even after using the Hyodo Bapsang meal service centers, seniors continue to check on each other and offer help, finding vitality and health in their daily lives, which has led to continuous community support and praise for ‘Hyodo Bapsang.’
The meal service centers that opened first on October 24 are the Daeheung-dong Taeyoung Apartment Senior Center, Iksu Senior Center, and Mapo Women’s Companion Center, all of which are easily accessible to seniors. On November 11, Sinchon-ro Senior Center, Hapjeong Senior Center, and Sangam World Cup Park 10 Complex Senior Center will be added as meal service centers.
The significant expansion of meal service centers was made possible thanks to the ‘Hyodo Bapsang Side Dish Factory’ established in April 2024. Mapo-gu created a cooking facility to greatly increase the number of users within a limited budget. This enabled senior centers and religious facilities without cooking facilities to also serve as meal service centers.
The warm soup and fresh side dishes prepared on the same day at the side dish factory are delivered to each meal service center, ensuring the nutritional supply for seniors.
Mapo-gu plans to increase the number of Hyodo Bapsang beneficiaries to 2,000 this year.
Mayor Park Gang-su of Mapo-gu said, “The success of the Hyodo Bapsang project was made possible by the active participation of our deeply caring Mapo residents,” and added, “We will do our best to create additional side dish factories and expand meal service centers so that the seniors of Mapo can enjoy a healthy and happy old age.”
