Marathon Event at Nakdonggang Sports Park at 10 AM on the 27th, First in 5 Years
Promotion for the Successful Hosting of the 2025 Gumi Asian Athletics Championships
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk will hold the '2024 Gumi Citizen Marathon' at 10 a.m. on the 27th at Nakdonggang Sports Park.
This event is the first marathon held in Gumi in five years since the 2019 Dokdo Protection National Marathon, and it is expected to serve as an opportunity to promote the upcoming Gumi Asia Athletics Championships next year and foster citizen unity.
The competition is divided into a 3 km walk, 5 km (individual and student), and 10 km (individual and team) categories, with about 5,000 citizens registering to participate, receiving great enthusiasm. Various side events such as a children's playground and promotional and sales booths will be set up at the venue to add enjoyment for participants.
Trophies and prize money (up to 500,000 KRW) will be awarded to the top three winners in the 5 km and 10 km categories, and local specialties from Gumi will be given from 4th place up to 30th place (varies by category). Special prizes are also prepared for participants in the 3 km walk, and various raffle events will be held together.
In particular, participants will be provided with coupons (worth 20% of the participation fee) that can be used on-site. Through this, they can experience various foods and entertainment at the event, which is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
Gumi City plans to use this marathon event to promote the successful hosting of the '2025 Gumi Asia Athletics Championships,' the largest athletics event in Asia to be held in Gumi next year, and to raise citizens' interest in athletics to boost the atmosphere. Additionally, the nationwide marathon event and the Asia Athletics Championships pre-event to be held in March next year will lay the foundation for a successful event.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, "This event is a meaningful occasion where citizens come together as one," and urged, "We ask for much interest and participation so that the Asia Athletics Championships next year can also be successfully held."
