Yoon Holds Summit with Polish President Today... Discusses Defense Industry and Security Cooperation

Prospects for Cooperation in High-Speed Rail and Nuclear Power
Shared Concerns over Russia-North Korea Military Collaboration

On the afternoon of the 24th, President Yoon Suk-yeol held a summit with Polish President Andrzej Duda, who is on a state visit to Korea, to strengthen defense industry cooperation between the two countries. With bilateral trade reaching a record high of $10.1 billion last year, the two leaders plan to further expand cooperation in the defense industry and security sectors through this meeting.

President Duda, visiting Korea on a state visit from the 22nd to the 25th, will visit domestic defense companies such as Hyundai Rotem and Hanwha during his stay. He is scheduled to personally inspect the manufacturing processes of the 'K9' self-propelled howitzer and the 'K2' Black Panther tank.

Cooperation is also expected in high-speed rail and nuclear power. Corporate consultations are underway regarding the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Konin, Poland, and Poland is advancing the 'Orka Project,' which involves the acquisition of three submarines, leading to expanded exchanges between companies from both countries. A presidential office official stated, "We will discuss practical cooperation between Korea and Poland as well as ways to enhance cooperation on regional and international stages."

Furthermore, the two leaders are expected to express serious concerns over North Korea's recent military cooperation with Russia, including the deployment of troops to Russia, and agree on closely cooperating with the international community to respond to this issue.

This meeting marks the first in three months. President Yoon held talks with President Duda during the NATO summit held in Washington, D.C., in July, where they discussed defense cooperation. In July last year, President Yoon officially visited Poland and held talks with President Duda.
