SBXG and Milrak The Market Joint Event on the 26th-27th
The ‘Busan Youth Esports Festival’ will take place over two days, from the 26th to the 27th, around the Millak-dong area in Suyeong-gu.
The Busan Youth Policy Research Institute (Chairman Kim Deok-yeol), a non-profit organization, announced on the 23rd that it will hold the event at Millak The Market, which has emerged as a hot spot for Busan youth, in collaboration with SBXG.
The Busan Youth Policy Research Institute, dedicated to planning and researching culture and policies for Busan youth, plans to showcase a variety of attractions and entertainment through this event, including the 2024 LoL World Championship Semifinal Viewing Party, cosplay, and DJ performances.
Gong Ji-heun, director of the Busan Youth Policy Research Institute and planner of the event, said, “It is meaningful to create Busan’s first esports festival through a partnership with SBXG, the first gaming team based in Busan.”
Director Gong also emphasized, “Having felt the enthusiastic response from Busan youth during the preparation period, we plan to expand the scale next year by collaborating with local governments, small and medium-sized enterprises, and youth companies in Busan.”
This event’s professionalism was enhanced by SBXG, co-hosting the festival. SBXG owns the esports team BNK PeerX, which is active in global game leagues such as the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), KartRider, Rainbow Six Siege, Valorant, and Eternal Return.
Leveraging its know-how and experience in gaming, SBXG has worked hard to organize an esports festival optimized event, including Mouse Potato game experiences, DJ parties, League of Legends character cosplay, and the 2024 LoL World Championship Semifinal Viewing Party.
Lim Jeong-hyun, CEO of SBXG, who recently extended the home base agreement with Busan City for three more years, said, “Over the past three years, SBXG has built partnerships infused with local characteristics across ‘clothing, food, housing, leisure, and entertainment’ with BNK Financial Group, Air Busan, Samjin Fish Cake, Gaemi Jip, Busan Tourism Organization, and Laval’s Hotel to become a Busan team.”
CEO Lim explained, “If the past three years were a period of moving home games to Busan to increase accessibility to esports, now is the time to connect with industries reflecting regional characteristics and create an esports festival unique to Busan.”
The 2024 LoL World Championship finals, commonly called the ‘Worlds,’ are expected to be a pride showdown between Korea and China. On the 26th, the semifinal match will feature China’s LPL teams Bilibili Gaming (BLG) and Weibo Gaming (WBG).
On the 27th, Korea’s (LCK) traditional rivals T1 and Gen.G will face off, confirming a Korea vs. China final. The winners of the matches on the 26th and 27th will compete in the finals on November 2nd in London, UK, to determine the ultimate champion.
