Comprehensive Military Infiltration Training Linked with Realistic Drills Including Water Balloon, Drone Bomb, and Hostage Terrorism Exercises
Lee Dong-hwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, is delivering a greeting at the '2024 Goyang City Crisis Response Field Training' held on the 22nd. Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 23rd that it conducted the '2024 Goyang City Crisis Response Field Training' at KINTEX Exhibition Center 2 on the 22nd.
This training was conducted in connection with the 'Comprehensive Large-scale Infiltration Exercise' carried out by the military since the 21st. Hosted by Gyeonggi Province and organized by Goyang City and the 9th Infantry Division, about 150 personnel from eight organizations including the 1st Corps, 9th Infantry Division, Gyeonggi Northern Police Agency, Ilsan Western Police Station, Ilsan Fire Station, Ilsan Western District Public Health Center, and KINTEX participated.
The training consisted of three parts: △ Suppression of drone terrorism and rescue of casualties △ Elimination of hostile hostage terrorists △ Response to chemical and biological terrorism using contaminated balloons. To vividly simulate the situation, 22 types of equipment such as tactical vehicles, patrol cars, and explosive trailers, as well as bomb detection dogs, blank cartridges, smoke grenades, and life-sized contaminated balloons were deployed, making the exercise resemble a real battle.
The joint training by the 9th Infantry Division Military Police Special Unit and the Gyeonggi Northern Police Special Forces, which rescued hostages composed of KINTEX employees and suppressed terrorists, demonstrated excellent integrated defense capabilities among civilians, government, military, police, and fire departments.
In particular, this training differentiated itself from previous exercises by including drills such as drone terrorism, hostage terrorism, bomb disposal, and also responding to contaminated balloons dropped from the air.
In fact, the military and police revealed the training process of confirming the danger, extinguishing fires, detecting chemical and biological agents, and collecting them. Many organizations and citizens, including the Goyang City Integrated Defense Council, Daehwa-dong Community Leaders Association, and Goyang City Volunteer Civil Defense Corps, observed the process.
Yoon Kwang-ok, the Citizen Safety Officer, stated, “Recently, North Korea has been continuously sending contaminated balloons. Although they currently contain only waste, there is always a possibility of chemical terrorism using these balloons. Crisis situations can occur in unpredictable forms, so it is very important to develop various training types and conduct continuous exercises.”
