"Role in Revitalizing the Domestic Venture Ecosystem and Achieving Balanced Regional Development Led by Local Governments"
Kang Seok-hoon, Chairman of the Korea Development Bank (KDB), received this year’s ‘Genie Awards’ in recognition of his contributions to discovering and nurturing regional new industry innovative companies and establishing economic cooperation networks at the ‘5th GENIE Forum’ held on the 23rd in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do.
The GENIE Forum is a global finance and economy forum hosted by Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province, Jeonju City, and the National Pension Service, held annually in Jeonju. The Genie Awards are given to domestic and international figures who have contributed to building innovative economic networks in fields such as economy, finance, and balanced development.
In September 2022, KDB held the 'KDB NextRound' Jeonbuk regional round to support investment attraction for innovative companies in Jeonbuk and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jeonbuk Province to revitalize the regional economy. In 2023, to establish a foundation for activating the regional venture ecosystem, KDB and Jeonbuk Province jointly created three regional innovation funds. After Saemangeum in Jeonbuk was designated as a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex in the secondary battery sector, KDB continued various cooperative projects, including signing an MOU among KDB, Jeonbuk Provincial Government, and Saemangeum Development Authority.
This year, to support balanced regional development and investment attraction for startups located in Jeonbuk, KDB held the first-ever 'KDB NextRound: Jeonbuk Regional Special Round' at its headquarters.
Chairman Kang stated, “Taking this award as an opportunity, KDB will take on its responsibilities with greater commitment to activate the venture ecosystem across the entire Republic of Korea, including Jeonbuk, and achieve balanced development led by local regions.”
