Discussion on Securing Special City Authority

Goyang Special City Council and Goyang Research Institute Hold the 8th Legislative Debate Goyang Research Institute and Goyang Special City Council took a commemorative photo after holding the "8th Legislative Debate" on the 21st at the video conference room of Goyang Special City Council.

On the 23rd, Gyeonggi Goyang Research Institute and Goyang Special City Council announced that they held the '8th Legislative Debate' on the 21st at the video conference room of Goyang Special City Council.


The debate was attended by Gong Soja, Chairperson of the Planning and Administration Committee of Goyang City Council, along with committee members Kwon Yongjae, Kim Youngsik, Jeong Minkyeong, and Lee Jongdeok, engaging in active discussions on securing the authority of the Special City.


Jeon Seonghun, Research Fellow at Goyang Research Institute, who presented at the legislative debate, gave a presentation titled 'Progress and Issues of the Special Act Supporting Special Cities,' emphasizing the direction of reforming the local administrative system as well as the specification and modernization of the criteria for designating Special Cities.


In the subsequent discussion, Gong Soja, Chairperson of the Planning and Administration Committee (Goyang Special City Council), stated, "Although Goyang City has become a Special City, the changes felt by citizens are minimal," adding, "We must continuously consider how to effectively provide services to citizens so that they can tangibly experience the changes resulting from the elevation to a Special City."


In response, Jeon Seonghun (Goyang Research Institute) said, "Along with securing substantial authority for the Special City, it is necessary to change the methods of service delivery within the existing authority to provide more diverse services," adding, "Through this, the effects felt by citizens can be further maximized."


Goyang Special City Council and Goyang Research Institute conduct legislative debates quarterly based on current issues and major research results of Goyang City, and stated that they will continue in-depth discussions for the development of Goyang City and its citizens in the future.
