Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Chang-su) announced on the 23rd that the application period for the '2025 Academic Year Secondary Teacher, Health, Librarian, Professional Counselor, Nutrition, and Special (Secondary) Teacher Candidate Selection Competitive Examination' has closed, recording a competition rate of 8.9 to 1 for public general secondary teachers and 12.8 to 1 for private schools.
For public secondary teachers, 757 applicants (747 general, 10 disabled) applied for 92 positions (84 general, 8 disabled), while private schools received 179 applications for 14 positions. Among them, 60 applicants applied exclusively to private schools (competition rate of 4.3 to 1), making the total number of applicants 817.
This year’s competition rate for secondary subjects was 7.9 to 1, which is 1.5 percentage points lower than last year’s 9.4 to 1. However, the comparative subjects and special (secondary) category showed a competition rate of 13.2 to 1, 4.3 percentage points higher than last year’s 8.9 to 1.
For disabled teachers selected through a total quota system, 10 applicants applied for 8 positions, maintaining the same competition rate of 1.3 to 1 as last year. The special (secondary) category had the highest competition rate at 5 to 1, with 5 applicants for 1 position.
By subject, special (secondary) had the highest competition rate at 14.6 to 1 with 73 applicants for 5 positions, while technology had the lowest at 1.7 to 1 with 5 applicants for 3 positions.
For private schools, 119 applicants applied as their second choice to corporate entities through simultaneous applications to public and private schools. The acceptance of applicants will be determined according to each private school's selection method.
Among the applicants, 580 (71%) were female and 237 (29%) were male. The youngest applicant was a 21-year-old female, and the oldest was a 55-year-old female.
Ulsan Office of Education published the final competition rates for the '2025 Academic Year Secondary Teacher, Health, Librarian, Professional Counselor, Nutrition, and Special (Secondary) Teacher Candidate Selection Competitive Examination' on its website at 10 a.m. on the 23rd.
The location for the first exam will be announced on the Ulsan Office of Education website at 10 a.m. on November 15, and the first written exam will be held on November 23.
Ulsan Office of Education will provide necessary accommodations based on the type and degree of disability to applicants with disabilities or pregnant women who have requested convenience, ensuring no difficulties during the exam.
The number of successful candidates for public schools will be 1.5 times the planned number of recruits per subject, while private schools will select 3 to 5 times the number specified in the entrusted status of each school corporation. In case of ties at the cutoff score, all tied candidates will be accepted.
The announcement of the first-round successful candidates for public schools will be available on December 26 on the Ulsan Office of Education website under ‘Education & Administrative Information - Exam Announcements,’ and private school results can be confirmed through each school corporation.
