The Mathematics and Science Creative Class is open to students residing in Changwon Special City who are recipients of basic living subsidies, belong to the lower-income or near-lower-income brackets, come from single-parent families, grandparent-headed families, multicultural families, or have financial difficulties, and who are recognized as having special talents in the relevant fields with a recommendation from their school principal.

The selection fields and number of students include three elementary classes (45 students) for grades 3 to 5, and two middle school classes (20 students) for grade 6 elementary and grade 1 middle school students, totaling five classes with 65 students.

The selection process consists of two stages: document screening and written and interview exams. The interview exam tests creative problem-solving abilities through questions covering the overall mathematics and science curriculum for elementary and middle school students, focusing on creativity and giftedness rather than prior learning or acquired knowledge.

The curriculum includes integrated education covering basic and advanced areas of mathematics (mathematics, statistics) and science (physics, chemistry, biology), along with academic and life guidance provided by university (graduate) students, aiming to nurture well-rounded and outstanding talents in science and engineering.

The 2025 Mathematics and Science Creative Class will commence with an entrance ceremony on March 15, 2025, and will run for 10 months until the end of the year. The application period is from October 29 to November 12.

For more details, inquiries can be made through the website or by phone at the Regional Science and Technology Promotion Center of the National Changwon University.

Shim Dong-seop, Director of the Autonomous Administration Bureau, said, “This is an important program that utilizes the university’s excellent faculty, equipment, and facilities to provide quality educational opportunities to socially disadvantaged students in the region and nurture future outstanding local talents. We encourage many interested students to apply.”
