Opening on the 24th: Malaysia Maybank Championship Participation
Field Comeback After Two Months of Intensive Shoulder Injury Treatment
Total 15 Wins, No Titles Since Last May's Founders Cup
Competition for Victory Among Boutier, Titikun, Green, Yang Hee-young
Finally, she is back.
World No. 6 Ko Jin-young is making a comeback. From the 24th, she will compete in the Meibang Championship, an LPGA Tour event with a total prize money of $3 million, held over four days at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (par 72, 6,536 yards) in Malaysia. This is the third tournament of the 'Asian Swing.' A total of 78 players will compete to determine the winner without a cut-off.
Ko Jin-young returns to competition after nearly two months. After finishing as runner-up in a playoff against Yoo Hae-ran at the FM Championship early last month, she withdrew from tournaments to treat her shoulder. Having recovered her condition to some extent, she is aiming to restore her honor. Since 2017, she has won at least one tournament every year, accumulating a total of 15 victories. However, she has not won since the Cognizant Founders Cup in May last year. This season, she has participated in only 14 tournaments and finished in the top 10 six times. Approaching the end of the season without a win, she faces the risk of spending a year without a victory for the first time since joining the LPGA Tour.
Korean players have combined for two wins this year but performed well at last week's BMW Ladies Championship held on home soil. Sung Yu-jin and Choi Hye-jin tied for 4th place, Yoo Hae-ran tied for 6th, and Lim Jin-hee tied for 8th. All four leaders will participate in this tournament. In addition, Yang Hee-young, An Na-rin, Shin Ji-eun, Lee So-mi, and Kim A-rim are also entered.
World No. 7 C?line Boutier (France) is aiming for her second consecutive title at this event. Last year, she became the inaugural champion after a marathon nine-hole playoff against Jinno Titikun (Thailand), the second-longest playoff in LPGA Tour history. Boutier is on the rise, having finished runner-up at the BMW Ladies Championship as well. Titikun, who leads the tour in scoring average (69.78), is seeking revenge for last year's playoff loss. Hannah Green (Australia), the winner of the BMW Ladies Championship, is hoping for back-to-back victories.
