French Lawmaker Caught Trying to Buy New Synthetic Drug at Subway Station

A member of the French National Assembly was caught by the police while dealing drugs in downtown Paris.

According to the daily newspaper Le Figaro and others on the 22nd (local time), Andy Kerbrat, a member of the far-left party La France Insoumise (LFI), was caught by the police around 10 p.m. on the 17th at a subway platform near Montmartre while purchasing synthetic drugs.

The police witnessed suspicious behavior between him and the drug dealer and immediately arrested both on the spot.

Kerbrat revealed his identity to the police, and it was found that he was in possession of 1.35g of 3-MMC, also known as new cocaine, at the time.

3-MMC is known to be cheaper than other drugs and popular in clubs and similar venues.

On the 21st (local time), the prosecution announced that it would file a summary indictment against Kerbrat for drug use. Local media reported that the fine requested by the prosecution was 1,000 euros (approximately 1.49 million KRW).

After the prosecution's announcement, Kerbrat issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "I fully accept responsibility" and "I will comply with the court's decision."

He also apologized to members of his party as well as to the New Popular Front (NFP), a coalition of left-wing parties, and stated that he would undergo drug treatment to resume his legislative activities.
