HCT is a company with top-level domestic technology in telecommunications based on 5th generation mobile communication (5G), electromagnetic compatibility, and safety testing. Earlier in July, it also signed a business agreement with the city for new investment attraction.

Through this agreement, HCT will participate in the development and operation of customized educational programs for nurturing scientific talent in Icheon City, and cooperate in supporting professional technical personnel and utilizing research facilities.

On the same day, the city also signed relay business agreements with the Icheon branch of the Korea Ceramic Technology Institute, and local semiconductor companies including Yujin Tech Co., Ltd., BCNC Co., Ltd., VM Co., Ltd., DS Techno Co., Ltd., Value Engineering Co., Ltd., BCNC Co., Ltd., and Youngjin IND Co., Ltd. The participating companies are members of the Semiconductor Company Council, which was formed to attract companies and foster the semiconductor industry following the announcement of the city’s No. 1 semiconductor pledge in July 2022 during the 8th local government term.

The Korea Ceramic Technology Institute is a quasi-governmental organization that established its Icheon branch in 2007. It conducts cutting-edge material research not only in ceramic process technology but also in optoelectronics, nano convergence, and bio-materials.

Mayor Kim said, "I am grateful that local companies willingly participated in this agreement for attracting a science high school and advancing local education," adding, "Along with attracting the science high school, we will work harder for the economic development of Icheon City."

Icheon City and the Icheon Office of Education are preparing to submit an application for the science high school recruitment according to the Gyeonggi-type science high school public recruitment plan announced by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on September 11. The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education plans to announce the first preliminary designation by the end of next month and, after evaluation, will make the final announcement of the selected site in March next year.
