The ‘Senior Job Creation Talent Development Education Project’ is a job-linked program that provides various educational programs aimed at local seniors, with the purpose of creating high-quality market-type jobs rather than simple public interest jobs. Since 2020, the 'POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation,' funded by 1% of POSCO employees' salaries, has supported the project with a budget of 50 million KRW.
Gwangyang Steelworks offers various courses such as board game instructors and baristas to help seniors design a new chapter in their lives and connects them to jobs to provide high-quality employment opportunities.
In particular, this year’s 5th-year education project added highly practical programs such as language development instructors, kiosk and smartphone utilization experts, hospital accompaniment managers, and Neulbom School play education instructors, which are expected to help seniors with expertise leverage their rich experience to lead active and healthy lives in their later years.
Since 2020, Gwangyang Steelworks has conducted 440 training sessions, resulting in 530 seniors finding employment, and plans to provide education to 182 seniors this year.
Jeong Sang-gyeong, Deputy Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, stated, “The reason this project has been able to be implemented systematically and continuously is due to the ongoing interest of Gwangyang City and the City Council,” and added, “We will continue to carry out various social contribution projects so that Gwangyang City can become an even better place to live.”
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks is actively leading efforts to create a happy local community by conducting activities for local seniors such as longevity photo shoots and delivery, a heart connection program for elderly living alone, facility cleaning activities at nursing homes, and giving carnations on Parents’ Day.
