Dotmill Co., Ltd. (CEO Haewoon Jung) announced on the 22nd that it has laid the foundation for entering the global market through the first-ever listing of an immersive media-based theme park in Korea. Dotmill is presenting new possibilities in the rapidly growing global theme park market by expanding its own IP and spatial business based on proprietary immersive media technology?completely different from metaverse or VFX?that fuses real spaces with digital technology, and by establishing a B2C revenue model.
Starting in 2015 as a company securing orders for immersive content, Dotmill has rapidly grown by producing various immersive content utilizing advanced technologies such as projection mapping and holograms. In particular, it has been recognized for its technological capabilities by successfully executing major domestic and international projects including the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the 70th anniversary commemoration of the Korean War, Tongyeong Dipirang, BTS hologram stage, and Samsung Galaxy S8 unpacking event.
Furthermore, Dotmill entered the B2C market starting with the opening of 'Lunapol' in Jeju in 2022, and has quickly led the domestic market by successfully launching multiple digital theme parks in a short period. Especially, by applying innovative immersive media technology to the analog-centered urban theme park industry, it has achieved remarkable results such as turning profitable by successfully launching numerous theme parks including 'Glow Safari,' 'OPCI,' and 'Water World.'
Behind Dotmill’s rapid growth lies its proprietary immersive media technology. First, Dotmill introduced a standardized modular system to flexibly transform spaces based on media art through digital theme parks, minimizing initial investment costs while providing differentiated experiences. Additionally, through diverse project experiences, it has built an efficient pipeline that independently handles all processes from planning to construction, technology development, and marketing, continuously reducing production and operation costs and maximizing profitability by adopting automated systems and content recycling.
This system enables a short construction period and flexible content changes, allowing rapid market entry and increasing customer satisfaction to encourage revisits, thereby creating a foundation for continuous revenue generation. As a result, Dotmill was recognized for its content planning and directing capabilities by receiving the Presidential Award for Venture Startup Promotion and the Prime Minister’s Award at the Korea Design Awards in 2022. It has also acquired 26 technology patents and proven the excellence of its business model and technology by obtaining an A grade in the mock technical evaluation for special listing and a TI-2 grade in the investment technology credit evaluation.
Dotmill plans to expand its digital theme park business using its own IP and secure a leading position in the global market based on the funds raised through its listing.
According to the 2024 Global Insight Report, the global theme park market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 5.8%, from $6.46 billion in 2023 to $11.3 billion by 2032. In particular, media art theme parks that offer new experiences to visitors of various age groups are gaining attention in the continuously growing global theme park market. For example, a similar domestic company, D Corporation, was recognized with a corporate value of approximately 1 trillion KRW in 2022 and attracted 100 billion KRW in investment through a single-brand expansion strategy centered on media art.
In contrast, Dotmill is gaining industry attention by securing a more diverse customer base and establishing a foundation for sustainable growth through a multi-brand expansion strategy focused on experiential entertainment. In this process, it is providing differentiated content based on its core technologies developed in-house and actively pursuing global market entry, which is expected to lead to increased sales and market share expansion in the future.
For instance, 'Ice Jungle,' which opened last year in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, themed around a winter festival in a hot tropical climate, gained great popularity among locals and tourists. This is a representative case demonstrating Dotmill’s ability to develop customized content reflecting the cultural characteristics of each region.
Dotmill’s next step is to build various themed digital theme parks that can be accepted globally based on its uniquely developed IP. It plans to rapidly expand its business primarily in the Southeast Asian market, strengthen its B2C business to increase brand awareness, and maximize profitability by expanding direct communication with customers. Through continuous development, it is expected to leap forward as a global leading company.
