Wonju City Implements Traffic Control Around Festival Area for 'Mandu Festival'

Temporary Parking Lots Operated at 10 Locations from the 22nd to 28th During the Festival
Mandu Festival to Attract Tourists Nationwide for 3 Days Starting the 25th

Wonju City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Won Gang-su) announced on the 22nd that traffic control will be implemented from 5 PM on the 22nd to 6 AM on the 28th (Monday) around the Jungang-dong traditional market and Culture Street, where the ‘2024 Wonju Mandu Festival’ will be held.

Wonju City Implements Traffic Control Around Festival Area for 'Mandu Festival' The area of the traditional market and Culture Street in Jungang-dong, Wonju-si, Gangwon-do, where the '2024 Wonju Mandu Festival' will be held starting from the 25th of this month, will have traffic restrictions from 5 PM on the 22nd until 6 AM on the 29th for event preparations and the safety and convenience of citizens and tourists.

The controlled sections are ▲Jungang Market and Jayu Market area (Wonil-ro 114 to Jungang Market-gil 32) ▲KB Kookmin Bank Intersection (Jungpyeong-gil 2 to Pyeongwon-ro 45) ▲Jeil Pharmacy Intersection (Wonil-ro 70 to Gamyeong-gil 51).


Traffic control is being implemented in advance before the festival, which will be held from the 25th to the 27th, to install main stages, sales booths, and other facilities, aiming to prevent pedestrian and vehicle accidents in advance. Additionally, traffic signal control will be used to guide smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents in the controlled areas. During the traffic control period, entry into these sections will be prohibited, so detours via Wonil-ro and Pyeongwon-ro are required, and transport vehicles must use entrances outside the controlled zones.

Wonju City will set up the main and auxiliary stages where events such as the Mandu King Big Show, opening and closing ceremonies, and Kimchi Mandu Contest will take place within the three traffic control zones, along with about 50 mandu sales booths offering over 100 varieties of mandu across 10 themes.


To enhance convenience for festival visitors, 10 temporary parking lots will be operated, including ▲Traditional Market Public Parking Lot ▲Market Revitalization Zone Parking Lot ▲Jayu Market Underground Parking Lot ▲Culture Street Public Parking Lot ▲(Former) Hakseong Elementary School Playground ▲Health Center Parking Lot ▲Wonjucheon Riverside Parking Lot ▲Seongji Hospital Parking Lots 1 to 5 ▲(Former) Wonju Station Public Parking Lot ▲Wonju Livestock Cooperative Hanaro Mart Outdoor Parking Lot.


Mayor Won Gang-su of Wonju said, “Although this area is usually congested with heavy traffic and this control is expected to cause considerable inconvenience, we ask for active cooperation so that the ‘2024 Wonju Mandu Festival,’ which aims to boost the local economy and revitalize the old downtown, can be held safely with the understanding and consideration of Wonju citizens.”


Meanwhile, the ‘2024 Wonju Mandu Festival’ will be held for three days from Friday, October 25th to Sunday, October 27th at Jungang-dong traditional market, Culture Street, and the underground shopping area, featuring over 50 mandu booths, the Mandu King Big Show, celebrity performances, kimchi mandu making experiences, and various other programs.
