Busan-Gwangju Student Representatives Seek Ways to Revitalize Student Autonomy

Busan Office of Education Supports Busan-Gwangju Student Council Exchange

Sharing Best Practices, Exploring Cooperation Methods through Discussions and Debates

To find ways to revitalize student autonomy through sharing best practices, discussions, and debates, student council members from Busan and Gwangju met.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Ha Yun-su) announced on the 22nd that over 70 student council members from Busan and Gwangju participated in exchange activities for one night and two days starting from the 18th at Busan Urban Corporation Arpina and other locations.

This exchange activity, held for the first time this year, aims to explore ways to develop student autonomy through communication and cooperation between student councils, create an environment for student participation, and strengthen participation capabilities.

On the first day of the exchange, before the main activities began, the student council members participated in a social gathering. Under the theme "Busan-Gwangju, We Want to Know That," they gave presentations to learn about each other's regions and open their hearts.

Following this, through discussions and debates on ways to revitalize student autonomy and the signing of an agreement for the nation's first exchange and cooperation between student councils, they focused on sharing student autonomy activities and finding continuous cooperation methods.

On the second day, they enhanced their bonds by participating together in local ecological and cultural field trips and exploring Busan’s food offerings.

The Busan Office of Education expects this exchange activity to be greatly helpful for students to find their own roles as subjects of education and to develop reasonable problem-solving skills.

Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “This exchange activity was a meaningful occasion for communication and empathy among student council members through building networks between regions,” and added, “Our Office of Education will take the lead in supporting students to grow into mature democratic citizens with a sense of community and solidarity.”
