"Utilization of Officetels Near the Station" Reports and Complaints Received
Yeongdeungpo District Office to Conduct On-Site Verification
Moon Da-hye (41), daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, who caused controversy due to drunk driving, has faced additional allegations of operating an 'illegal lodging business' in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, following similar suspicions in Jeju. Yeongdeungpo-gu has decided to conduct an on-site inspection to verify the facts.
On the 21st, Yonhap News reported that Yeongdeungpo-gu recently received reports and complaints that an officetel near Yeongdeungpo Station was being used as a lodging facility. The officetel in question was purchased by Moon on June 23, 2021, and according to the registry, she is listed as the owner. The district office reportedly received reports and complaints stating that Moon did not reside there but operated a lodging business using shared accommodation platforms such as Airbnb.

A Yeongdeungpo-gu official told Yonhap News, "It is not yet known whether lodging business actually took place. However, the officetel in question is not a place where lodging business is permitted. There have been no related reports or registrations." He added, "In such cases, on-site inspections are the standard procedure. The date has not been set yet. If it is confirmed that the place was used as a lodging facility, we will take measures such as filing charges."

Previously, Moon was also suspected of operating an unregistered illegal lodging business at her detached house in Hyeopjae-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City. In response, Jeju City has requested an investigation to clearly determine illegal activities, considering the possibility that Moon operated lodging business without registering as a rural homestay. If Moon’s charges are proven in Jeju and Yeongdeungpo-gu, she could face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won for violating the Public Health Control Act.
