Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 21st that it has successfully completed the "Visiting Jeong Yak-yong School" program as part of the Jeong Yak-yong brand project.
The "Visiting Jeong Yak-yong School" is conducted for elementary, middle, and high school students in the district, and is a program that introduces the achievements of Jeong Yak-yong through various teaching methods rather than simple rote memorization.
The Jeong Yak-yong School was operated by visiting schools and conducting classes over 1 to 2 sessions based on lesson plans directly created by Jeong Yak-yong citizen narrators.
The class topics consisted of three categories: △ Exciting Jeong Yak-yong (grades 1-2) △ Lululala Nongga Wolryeongga (grades 3-4) △ Joseon’s Famous Detective Jeong Yak-yong’s Heumheum Sinseo (grades 5-6, middle and high school students). From June to October, a total of 1,539 students from 59 classes in 9 schools participated.
Participating students said, "I learned many new things through the class and want to visit the Jeong Yak-yong historic site again," and "It was new and good to learn about Jeong Yak-yong’s pen name and law."
A city official said, "We hope this was an opportunity to learn about Jeong Yak-yong’s achievements and philosophy, fostering a proper historical awareness and humanities literacy," and added, "We will continue to develop and operate various programs for citizens as part of the Jeong Yak-yong brand project."
