Transfer of Overseas Business Reporting Authority to Local Governments
The government has passed a related amendment to transfer the authority for registration and reporting of overseas employment placement businesses from the Ministry of Employment and Labor to local governments.
On the 22nd, the government announced that it reviewed and approved a partial amendment to the "Employment Security Act," which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, at the Cabinet meeting.
Previously, those who wished to operate an employment placement business had to report to different authorities depending on the location where workers sought employment. For domestic cases, they had to register or report to the relevant local government, and for overseas cases, to the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Going forward, they will be able to report to local governments regardless of whether the location is domestic or overseas.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor explained, "Through this amendment, the authority related to registration and reporting of overseas employment placement businesses will be transferred from the Ministry of Employment and Labor to local governments," adding, "This aims to unify the management authority for domestic and overseas employment placement businesses under local governments to enhance convenience for applicants wishing to operate employment placement businesses."
