13 Organizations Including Fire and Police with Over 250 Participants
Nam-gu, Gwangju announced on the 21st that it will conduct a large-scale safety drill on the 25th at 2 p.m. at Namseon Oil in Songha-dong to prepare for complex disaster situations such as fires caused by hazardous materials within the workplace.
This drill was organized to enhance the capability to respond to various disasters, as there have been recent occurrences of different types of fires, including those at lithium battery manufacturers and electric vehicle fires in underground parking lots.
According to the basic training plan of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the drill will involve about 30 vehicles and 250 personnel from 13 organizations, including the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters, Nambu Fire Station, Nambu Police Station, Yeongsangang River Basin Environmental Office, Gwangju Christian Hospital, and Nam-gu Volunteer Center.
Participants will conduct training on initial fire response and rescuing workers in situations where flames and thick smoke make it difficult for on-site workers to evacuate easily, following the disaster response manual. Additionally, each organization will perform its disaster response duties while preventing the fire from spreading to the outdoor tank storage area, which could cause an oil tank explosion, and will also carry out safety measures to prevent chemical substances from leaking outside the workplace.
A Nam-gu official stated, “This drill will greatly help enhance our ability to respond quickly and systematically on-site even in unpredictable complex disaster situations. We will conduct the training at a level close to real situations to do our best to protect the lives and property of residents.”
