Dongducheon-si Successfully Concludes 2024 Habongam Dodang Gut Regular Performance

Dongducheon City held a regular performance of "Habongam Dodang Gut," the city's Local Intangible Heritage No. 2, on the 19th at the Soyosan Brand Yukta Town outdoor performance hall.

Dongducheon City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Park Hyung-deok) announced on the 21st that the regular performance of ‘Habongam Dodang Gut,’ the city’s second local intangible cultural heritage, was held on the 19th at the Soyosan Brand Yukta Town outdoor performance hall.

Hosted by the ‘Habongam Dodang Gut Preservation Society (President Lee Young-ho),’ this event was organized to pray for the safety and peace of the citizens of Dongducheon.

The event began with the purification ritual called Bujeonggeori to cleanse the Gutcheong, followed by Sanggeori performed by the holder Kim Jeong-ran, and the ancestral worship ceremony Josanggamang. It concluded with the final ritual called Dwitjeongeori, which wraps up all the ceremonies.

Before the main event, Mayor Park Hyung-deok of Dongducheon said, “Since intangible heritage is difficult to restore to its original form once lost, Dongducheon City will do its best to fully pass down precious intangible assets like Habongam Dodang Gut to future generations.”
